Alexis Mac Allister labeled Mohamed Salah a Liverpool legend after the Egyptian’s starring role in the 2-0 win over Aston Villa.

Salah helped fire the Reds five points clear at the top of the Premier League after Manchester City’s latest slip-up at Brighton. The 32-year-old bagged a goal and assist to move into double figures in all competitions on both counts this season.

Now up to eighth in the Premier League’s all-time goalscorers, Salah (165) has Thierry Henry (175) and Frank Lampard (177) in his sights next. With little sign of him slowing down, you wouldn’t bet against him overtaking the pair before the end of the season.

And his teammates are in no doubt about his standing at Anfield, with Mac Allister singing his praises to TNT Sports after the win over Villa.

“He’s so good and so important for this team,” Mac Allister said. “Not just for the team but for the club as well, he’s a legend here, so I’m happy for him, and when you have him, you know he’s going to deliver and get the numbers, we’re happy for him.”

Mac Allister’s message will no doubt be echoed by Liverpool fans, who will be hoping the club’s owners FSG are listening.

As things stand, Salah’s time at Anfield will come to an end at the end of the season with the clock ticking down on his contract ticking. With January just around the corner, he will be able to negotiate a pre-contract agreement with a foreign club in the New Year if he chooses to do so.

FSG and sporting director Richard Hughes therefore face a race against time if they’re to tie Salah down to a new deal. Speaking about his future ahead of last week’s Champions League clash with Bayer Leverkusen, Liverpool boss Arne Slot said: "Mo is in a very good place at the moment.

“As long as he's been at Liverpool he's been in a good place, but this season as well, I'm hoping that he will post one after tomorrow, Saturday again, and what he says isn't important to me, what's important to me is how he plays and what he tells me when we have conversations. That's what matters, not how you guys interpret one of his posts.”

Liverpool.com says: Get that contract signed. Salah is still by far and away Liverpool’s best attacking player, and you can’t just let that go for free. FSG absolutely needs to get a new deal in front of him as soon as possible.
