Leicester City will be hoping for good news after centre-back Ben Nelson was substituted with an injury during his latest outing for loan club Oxford United.

Nelson has established himself as a regular for the Championship side and has started their last eight matches. However, he managed just 62 minutes of the 1-0 win over Hull on Tuesday evening before limping out.

There’s no word on what the injury is or how serious it may be, with Oxford manager Des Buckingham saying he will need to be assessed to see if a scan is required. City will hope there is no serious concern for Nelson as they are keeping close tabs on the 20-year-old, and have the capacity to recall him in January.

Buckingham told the Oxford Mail after the game: “My injury board has got too many names on it. Ben came off, and I haven’t got an update on him. We will, as we always do, send him if we feel there’s a need for a scan and we’ll assess him.”

Coming off early meant Nelson could not celebrate what was his first Championship victory at Oxford. The U’s had drawn five and lost three of their previous eight matches, but beat Hull to jump up to 14th in the table.

Elsewhere, centre-back Harry Souttar played 90 minutes as Sheffield United scored a 98th-minute winner in a 2-1 comeback win over Bristol City, a result that sends the Blades up to second. Striker Tom Cannon will hope to get his seventh goal of the season when Stoke play Blackburn on Wednesday night.
