LOCAL ROUNDUP: Illinois women reaches first-ever WBIT final

Apr. 2—INDIANAPOLIS — The Illinois women's basketball team made sure it had one more game to play.

The Illini won an WBIT semifinal with a dominant 81-58 win over Washington State to make the first-ever championship game of the tournament at Hinkle Fieldhouse.

Makira Cook had 20 points with 16 in the first half and had five assists for Illinois, while Genesis Bryant had 18 points, Adalia McKenzie had 14 points with three steals, Camille Hobby had 12 points and eight rebounds, Kendall Bostic had seven points and nine rebounds and Gretchen Dolan had seven points and two steals.

The Illini will take on Villanova on Wednesday for the title and it will be shown on ESPN2 at 6 p.m.

PREP BASEBALL

Hoopeston Area 12, Danville 2

DANVILLE — The Cornjerkers had 11 hits as they beat the Vikings in five innings on Saturday.

Ryker Small had three hits with two RBIs for Hoopeston Area, while Dylan Judy had three hits and three RBIs, Dallas Sheppard had three RBIs and Keygan Field and Cole Miller each had one RBI.

Grady DeVors and Brody Boyd each had one RBI for Danville.

The Cornjerkers played Westville on Monday and lost 11-3. Alec Davis and Drew Wichtowski each had three RBIs for the Tigers, while Cameron Steinbaugh had two hits and two RBIs and Matt Darling and Easton Barney each had one RBI.

Miller and Mason Rush each had one RBI for the Cornjerkers, while Zach Huchel, Small and Braydon Walder each had two hits.

BHRA sweeps Tri-County

BISMARCK — The Blue Devils cruised to a 22-1 win in the first game and 26-2 win in the second game of a doubleheader with Tri-County.

In the first game, Karson Stevenson had three hits with a home run and five RBIs, Ethan Dubois had three hits and three RBIs, Micah Stanford had two hits and two RBIs, Chaz and Cruz Dubois each had two RBIs, Enrique Ranel and Anderson Thomas each had two hits and a RBI and Jordan Johnson, Ayden Golden and Caden Keleminic each had one RBI. Dane Dillion gave up one hits and had eight strikeouts.

Chaz Dubois had three hits, two home runs and seven RBIs in the second game, while Johnson and Dillion each had three hits and three RBIs, Keleminic had two hits and two RBIs, Ethan Dubois, Cruz Dubois and Stanford each had two hits and a RBI, Rangel had two RBIs and Austin Campbell and Liam Parish each had one RBI. Kyan Jones had 11 strikeouts and gave up two hits.

Okaw Valley 14, Oakwood 10

OAKWOOD — The Comets were down 12-1 early on, but fought to the end against Okaw Valley.

Chase Dudley had two RBIs for Oakwood, while Jackson Dudley had two hits and a RBI, Alex Wallace, Brody Marcinko, Alec Harrison each had a RBI and Derek Drews added two hits.

Fountain Central splits opener

KENTLAND, Ind. — After losing a close 9-8 decision in the first game, the Mustangs rebounded in a big way with a 24-5 win in the second game.

Ayden Batchelor had three hits with a double and a RBI for Fountain Central in the first game, while Nolan Acton had two RBIs, Owen Acton had a double and a RBI and Conner Paxton, Noah Dodson and Spencer Krout each had one RBI.

In the second game, Owen Acton had four hits with a home run and four RBIs, while Batchelor had three hits and three RBIs, Nolan Acton had two hits and three RBIs, Kyle Slinker had three RBIs, Krout had two RBIs and, Cole Garbison, Paxton and Asher Davis each had one RBI.

Fountain Central then beat Riverton Parke 13-4 on Monday. Batchelor had two hits with an RBI and struck out eight batters. Davis had two hits with four RBIs and Owen Acton had three hits and two RBIs and Noah Dodson had two triple and a single for three RBIs.

PREP SOFTBALL

Westville 10, Hoopeston Area 0

HOOPESTON — Abby Sabalaskey had 14 strikeouts and gave up only two hits as the Tigers beat the Cornjerkers in six innings.

Lilly Kiesel had four hits with three doubles and four RBIs for Westville, while Sabalaskey had three hits with a home run and two RBIs, Layla Atwood ahd two hits and two RBIs, and Laney Cook added two hits.

Losing pitcher Maddie Barnes and Kennedy Wallace each had a hit for Hoopeston Area, who will face Fisher today.

The Tigers will play North Vermillion today.

Central 5, BHRA 4

RANTOUL — The Blue Devils took the lead late, but the Maroons rallied with two runs in the bottom of the fifth to get the win.

Emma Shelato had two hits and two RBIs for Bismarck-Henning/Rossville-Alvin, while Eva Ronto and Ella Myers each had one RBI.

Salt Fork splits at LeRoy

LEROY — The Storm beat Moweaqua Central A&M 6-5 and lost a close 8-6 decision to host LeRoy on Saturday.

Alexa Jamison had a home run and two RBIs for Salt Fork against Moweaqua Central A&M, while Macie Russell had two hits with a triple and one RBI and Ava Ringstrom, Brycie Barnett and winning pitcher Morgan Russell each had one RBI.

Barnett had a home run and three RBIs against LeRoy, while Morgan Russell had three hits and a RBI, Ringstrom had a RBI and Macie Russell had two hits.

Fountain Central gets swept

ROSSVILLE, Ind. — The Mustangs started the season on Saturday by taking on No. 4-ranked Rossville.

In the first game, Fountain Central lost 5-0 as Kacey Kirkpatrick had 12 strikeouts on the mound and Zoe Foxworthy-DeJournett had two stolen bases.

The Mustangs had a 3-2 lead going into the bottom of the fifth, but the Hornets would rally to get an 8-3 win.

Kirkpatrick had two hits, while Keylee Stonebraker had a hit and two RBIs and Kearney Foxworthy-DeJournett had an RBI.

The Mustangs then played Riverton Parke on Monday and lost 18-8. Kirkpatrick had three hits and two RBIs, while Katelynn Brown had two RBIs and Jacquelyn Weber, Lillian Bennett, Olivia Jones and Kyra Kyger each had one RBI.

COLLEGE BASEBALL

DACC wins three of four

DANVILLE — The Jaguars were able to take three out of four games over John Wood on Friday and Saturday.

Danville Area Community College won a marathon 10-inning game, 10-9, and 12-9 on Friday. In the first game, Brock Bacus and Shea Zbrosek each had three hits and two RBIs for the Jaguars, while Kody Morton, Adam Evans and Mason Rice each had two hits and a RBI, Brennan Reed and Carter Wambach each had one RBI and Ryan DeGroot had two hits.

In the second game, Morton had two hits and four RBIs, while Wambach had two hits and three RBIs, Drew Pinkston had two RBIs, Bacus had three hits and a RBI, Evans had two hits and a RBI and Zbrosek had a RBI.

The first game on Saturday saw DACC lose 5-2 as Morton had two RBIs and Pinkston had two hits, but rebounded with a 8-2 win as Bacus and Wambach each had two hits and two RBIs, Zbrozek had three hits and a RBI and DeGroot and Jackson Raaf each had one RBI.

COLLEGE SOFTBALL

DACC splits with Lincoln Land

SPRINGFIELD — The Jaguars won the first game 5-4., but fell 7-5 in the second game to the Loggers on Saturday.

In the firs game, Gloria Richardson had a home run and three RBIs for Danville Area Community College, while Ali Grenzebach had a home run and two RBIs, Rylee Richey had a solo home run and Pailei Cripe had two hits.

Richardson has a home run in the second game, while Alyssa Acton had two hits and a RBI, Kaylee Kline had a RBI and Richey had two hits.

The Lady Jaguars will host Triton College on Thursday.
