Luis Diaz has lauded Arne Slot for the effect he’s had on him finding his best form yet in a Liverpool shirt.

The Colombian has started the Premier League season on fire, scoring five times in the first five games of the new campaign. Diaz’s form has made him one of the first names on the Dutchman’s team sheet and it appears the two have struck up a brilliant relationship.

Diaz managed just eight goals in the league last season, with his form under Slot already leaving him hot on the heels of his best Anfield tally. The 27-year-old was an unused substitute against West Ham United in the Carabao Cup in midweek but will likely be reinstated to the starting line-up against Wolves on Saturday.

Speaking to Sky Sports ahead of the Reds trip to Molineux, Diaz was asked about his relationship with his new Anfield boss. "As a coach, he has been spectacular from the first day I arrived and we had contact," Diaz said. "The relationship is and continues to be really good.

"He is very attentive to the things you need to improve but he will also praise you for the good things you do. He is a good coach in that sense. He puts together good plans for the games and you can see that reflected in our results. We have shown a lot of quality in our first few games."

Diaz continued to divulge on the work he has been doing with Slot on the training ground which has produced the most prolific form he’s enjoyed in a red shirt. The Colombian lauded Slot’s demands, asking him to run in behind and spread the play, a feature of Liverpool’s tactics under the Dutchman.

"The coach asks that of all of us. What I have, in terms of my characteristics, is what he wants from his wingers,” Diaz continued. "He also tries to instill a lot of tactical details in us. He works hard in that sense. He asks us to always run back to defend, to form a good defensive block, and then to go on the attack as well. If you defend better, obviously you are going to attack better too.

"So, he wants us to think about that defensive side of things, but also while enjoying ourselves because it's always important to have that enjoyment, even knowing you have a job to do."

Diaz remained on the bench as the holders booked their place in the fourth round of the Carabao Cup. Slot opted to give a start to summer signing Federico Chiesa as he looks to reach optimal match fitness. The Colombian’s form this season may have been the reason behind his no show in midweek, with Slot clearly comfortable with the levels the winger is operating at.
