Luiz chat, transfer truth, 'special' Villa Park - Every word Pau Torres said ahead of Juventus clash
Pau Torres spoke to the media at Bodymoor Heath on Tuesday afternoon ahead of Aston Villa's Champions League clash against Juventus this evening.
The Spaniard was part of Emery's Villarreal side which beat Juve in the Champions League round of 16 back in 2022. Here is every word Torres said in the pre-match press conference...
Given Villa's last results, what has been missing?

"The last games we didn’t get the results we were looking for. We know we have things to correct, to analyse that with the staff and we are doing that during the week. These results only make us work harder so that the good dynamic returns."

What are you expecting from Juventus?
"We are in a good way in the Champions this season, we started really well. Of course we lost a good opportunity against Brugge but here at home we are feeling comfortable. We know like Bayern Munich that Juventus are favourites for tomorrow but we know if we are in our highest level and focused 100 per cent we can beat them. So we’re trying to get that win tomorrow."
Why have Villa conceded the amount of goals they have so far this season?
"It’s something we’re working on. We know all teams now how to attack with the spaces and we need to reduce those options for them. Try to control the forward players, try to not to lose the ball so much. Sometimes we are playing with a lot of spaces in our build up. We need to be alert to our good rest defending and try to correct this."
Vlahovic won't play tomorrow - how will that change your preparation?
"We know the last game they played without a striker, playing with two ten numbers and two wingers. For me as a player I want to play as the best players and I know Vlahovic is one of the best strikers in Europe. I played against him when he arrived at Juventus with Villarreal.
"He scored against us and for sure he is a top player. He scored and he’s a really good player. If he’s not available there are other good players can play tomorrow. We are working during this week. There are two options for them. They could play with a striker or two number 10s. We’re ready for anything."
What have you made of the atmosphere at Villa Park for Champions League matches?
"It’s special for us and the supporters, who waited many years to be in this competition again. We started really well, giving them happy nights in Villa Park. We want to enjoy with them and give them a victory after a long time. We’re focused on that and we want to enjoy with them."
Why are you keeping more clean sheets in the Champions League rather than Champions League?
"It’s different. In the Premier League you have a different rhythm during the game. Juventus is a team who are feeling comfortable waiting. They have a good structure, they can manage the time of the game as they want. It’s different.
"They have experimental players and a really good coach and a winning mentality, They are usually winning titles every season so they manage the game different to in the Premier League."
You scored against Juventus in the Champions League in 2022 - how was that?
"It was a goal from a set piece. The fact we could beat them in Champions League was a really good moment for me as a player and it was my first time playing in this competition. We beat them and got through to the next round. It was a great moment, I enjoyed it a lot with my old team and I have good memories."
What do you make of Juventus and Luiz's struggles there so far?
"For us, Juventus is always a special team, they are an historical team playing in Europe every season and usually winning titles each season. Now with Douglas Luiz playing there, I know he’s in a difficult moment but he’s a really good player.
"I spoke a lot with him about the club and how he’s feeling there now but for us they’re a winning team with a winning mentality. We know tomorrow will be a difficult game. They are favourites in the beginning but we want to enjoy with our supporters and we will try to beat them.
"It’s a difficult moment for him but I know him as a person and a player and I know he will finish the season playing. He has a lot of quality as a person and a player. He’s not available for tomorrow through injury but I hope for him the best for the rest of the season."
What is the message from Emery?
"For us inside the dressing room, we know we have work to do and things to correct and analyse with Unai and his staff. But this moment we’re living now only makes us work harder and we want that good dynamic to return."
Juventus were interested in you before you signed for Villa - why did that not materialise?
"In that moment I didn’t feel interest was in me. They had problems with Europe about FFP and in that moment I was focused with Villarreal and the team who had interest in me was Aston Villa so I’m really happy to be here."
