Maika Sivo's love for Brad Arthur and Fiji impact bodes well for Leeds Rhinos
Leeds Rhinos' incoming winger Maika Sivo's comments about coach Brad Arthur - and his impact for Fiji - were positives to see for the west Yorkshire club today.
Sivo scored two tries for Fiji as they had an impressive 56-6 thrashing of Cook Islands, taking his recent tally to 10 in eight Tests. And he highlighted the strength of his relationship with Leeds coach Brad Arthur in the interview that accompanied him being announced as a Leeds player on a three-year deal.
Having signed from NRL side Parramatta Eels, where he was a prolific try scorer in recent years, he will be working again with Arthur - where the Australian worked for a decade before arriving at Headingley - and the player joining the growing Fijian contingent in Super League.
"He is a big part of where I am today, I wouldn't be here without Brad," Sivo said. "As soon as he messaged, I said 'yeah, I'm coming'. He helped me along the way with my footy career and he is very close to my family too.
"It was a big decision. But me and my partner were talking about it and as soon as Brad messaged we said straight away we are coming. When we talked to Brad, we are excited for the challenge ahead and we are looking forward to it.
"I haven't been in any other club than Parramatta so this will be a different experience but at the same time it's a good challenge for me."
Speaking about Ash Handley and Ryan Hall, Sivo added: "They are very class wingers and have played for their country. It will be good learning some stuff off them and at the same time it will be a good competition for the wing spots and I'm looking forward to it."
