Jack Grealish has withdrawn from the England squad to face Greece and the Republic of Ireland this week, just as Pep Guardiola insisted he would.

Grealish was a surprise inclusion in Lee Carsley's final squad as interim manager, with Guardiola previously ruling his winger out until after the international break. In response to the call-up, Guardiola gave an angry press conference where he insisted Grealish was unfit and that England did not contact City about their plans to include him in their squad.

Carsley had also said that England will assess Grealish upon his arrival to St George's Park on Monday, and now City have been given an answer over his condition.

Guardiola clarified after defeat at Brighton that Grealish remained 'injured', including him in their long list of injured players .

In an update on Monday, England said: "Aston Villa’s Morgan Rogers has received his first senior call up.

"Jarrod Bowen and Jarrad Branthwaite along with the uncapped Tino Livramento and James Trafford have also been added to Lee Carsley’s squad.

"This follows the loss of eight players ahead of this week’s UEFA Nations League fixtures.

"Trent Alexander-Arnold, Levi Colwill, Phil Foden, Jack Grealish, Cole Palmer, Aaron Ramsdale, Declan Rice and Bukayo Saka are all unavailable.

"A 23-man squad will now prepare for Thursday’s trip to Greece and Sunday’s match against Republic of Ireland at Wembley."

Grealish joins Nathan Ake, Ruben Dias and John Stones having been omitted from international duty through injury while Manu Akanji and Matheus Nunes withdrew from their respective squads on Monday morning with problems of their own. Guardiola had said Akanji 'couldn't move' in training before sitting on the bench at Brighton, while Nunes completed the 90 minutes but Portugal said he was injured while playing for City.

Likewise, Jeremy Doku has a muscular issue in his quads and may also withdraw from Belgium duty.
