Man United issued Viktor Gyokeres transfer warning as Erling Haaland point made
Ruben Amorim's imminent arrival at Manchester United from Sporting has naturally led to them being linked with Viktor Gyokeres.
It's easy to see why the Reds have been linked with the former Coventry City striker. The Swede has flourished under United's incoming manager, with 16 goals for Sporting across all competitions this season.
The Reds' current strikers, Joshua Zirkzee and Rasmus Hojlund in comparison, have netted just three times so far in 2024/25. It's a daming statistic which demonstrates a clear weakness Amorim will be tasked with fixing when he arrives at Old Trafford.
Gyokeres has been seen in some quarters as the Reds answer to Manchester City goal machine Erling Haaland. Whether the 26-year-old is United's missing piece may not be as certain as some think though.

Firstly, Gyokeres has not been tested at the highest level. Scoring goals in the Portuguese league cannot be compared to what Haaland did for Borussia Dortmund in the Bundesliga for example.
The Norwegian scored five goals against Bayern Munich whilst playing in Germany for two years. Teams like Porto and Benfica are not at the same level as Bayern.
That's not to say Gyokeres can't reach that level and be a regular goalscorer for Amorim's new team. But his signing would represent more risk than Haaland did when City signed him in 2022.
And having already spent heavily on Zirkzee and Hojlund, United cannot afford to get their next striker wrong. The Reds, like all Premier League teams, must be mindful of the league's Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR).
It could be argued that United's new manager is already hampered in that regard, with the club sailing close to the wind when it came to their PSR compliance for 2023/24.
Another bad, big-money transfer could set Amorim's plans back significantly if they haven't already. While Gyokeres looks to be a promising player, there is no guarantee he will be able to repeat his success in Portugal with the Reds.
