Man United legend leaves backroom team ahead of Ipswich clash

Manchester United legend Ruud van Nistelrooy has left his role at Manchester United ahead of their upcoming clash against Ipswich Town.

The Dutchman, who was an iconic player during his five-year stint at Old Trafford between 2001 and 2006, returned to the club in the summer to work under Erik ten Hag.

When Ten Hag was sacked, Van Nistelrooy stepped up as interim manager while new boss Ruben Amorim finished up at Sporting CP. In that time, he beat Leicester City and PAOK in the Carabao Cup and Europa League respectively while also drawing Chelsea 1-1 in the Premier League before seeing off the Foxes once again in his final match in charge.

Amorim arrived in England this afternoon, and although he's unable to start working at the club until his work permit is processed, he's been able to make decisions about his backroom staff. The Portuguese has decided that Van Nistelrooy won't be a part of it, meaning that he'll leave the club alongside Rene Hake, Jelle ten Rouwelaar and Pieter Morel.

"Ruud is, and always will be, a Manchester United legend," the club said in a statement this afternoon.

"We are grateful for his contribution and the way in which he has approached his role throughout his time with the club. He will always be very welcome at Old Trafford."

Amorim is expected to name his coaching staff soon in order to prepare for the trip to Portman Road on Sunday, November 24th.
