Man United players send message to Ruud van Nistelrooy as Ruben Amorim makes exit call
A swathe of Manchester United players have shown their support for Ruud van Nistelrooy, who left the club on Monday following an unbeaten four-game run as interim boss.
The Dutchman, who ended his tenure with a 3-0 win over Leicester City on Sunday, had outlined his desire to stay on as an assistant under new head coach Ruben Amorim.
However, Van Nistelrooy will leave Old Trafford having not been offered a role by Amorim, who was seen flying to Manchester with his Sporting CP backroom team ahead of his first day at United on Monday.

Van Nistelrooy, 48, was brought back to United as a supporting coach by Erik ten Hag this summer. He was given the role of interim boss until the arrival of Amorim, following the sacking of Ten Hag.
The Portuguese head coach is unable to take training just yet as he waits for his visa to be approved, which is expected to come though next week.
Amorim has been meeting club staff on his first day at Carrington, including sporting director Dan Ashworth and technical director Jason Wilcox.
Some players are expected to check into training this week with the likes of Marcus Rashford, Amad and Casemiro missing out on international call-ups. A number of squad members have meanwhile shown their appreciation of Van Nistelrooy.
The Premier League posted a social media video of the coach giving a hearty applause to United supporters after the win over Leicester on Sunday. One fan was shown to be in tears.
Van Nistelrooy shared it onto his own Instagram profile, which brought reaction from a number of United players. First-team stars Diogo Dalot, Altay Bayindir, Rasmus Hojlund, Casemiro, Andre Onana, Joshua Zirkzee and Ethan Wheatley all liked the post.
Former United heroes Dwight Yorke and Edwin van der Sar also favourited the video, as did Donny van de Beek and Phil Jones. United released a statement confirming Van Nistelrooy’s exit on Monday.
It said: ”Ruud is, and always will be, a Manchester United legend. We are grateful for his contribution and the way in which he has approached his role throughout his time with the club. He will always be very welcome at Old Trafford.”
