Man Utd legend urges Ruben Amorim to make surprise transfer swoop for Liverpool star
Dwight Yorke has urged Manchester United to make a shock swoop for Darwin Nunez - as Ruben Amorim closes in on the Old Trafford hotseat.
With Erik ten Hag having been relieved of his duties as Red Devils boss this week, the Sporting CP manager is expected to succeed him next month. For now, Ruud van Nistelrooy has been handed the reins as interim head coach, having served as assistant to his predecessor.
Amid the upheaval at United, 1999 treble winner Yorke has admitted that he feels the next permanent boss would benefit from reinforcements when it comes to his attacking options. The ex-Premier League stalwart is convinced that his old club is currently lacking "presence" up front - naming Liverpool's Nunez as the perfect man to solve the issue.

With no player having crossed the divide between England's most successful clubs since Phil Chisnall in 1964, the chances of the Uruguayan making the controversial switch seem improbable. However, Yorke could not help but dream of Nunez leading the line for Liverpool's fiercest rivals in the future.
He told SafestCasinoSites: "If I could sign anyone to come in at number nine for Manchester United, then I would try and nick Darwin Nunez off Liverpool. Again, I know people may scoff at that suggestion, he’s a little bit out of form, and people give him stick, but I’m convinced that there is a monster of a player in there that is waiting to come out.
"He’s got a presence; he’s got something nasty about him and I think he’s a real handful. Manchester United need a player who can act as that focal point and give them that presence on the pitch. They need someone with Darwin Nunez’s physical attributes."
Nunez's contributions for the Reds have proven divisive since he signed from Benfica back in 2022 - with the forward having scored 35 times in 107 appearances. However, Yorke of convinced of the 25-year-old qualities, asserted: "He’s somebody I would try to poach. If I’m looking for a number nine right now, I would take a chance with this guy.
"Ollie Watkins is a great striker, but I think United need someone with a bit more of a physical presence up top. I’m convinced that if you played him week-in, week-out, Darwin Nunez would start ripping up the Premier League."
As for Nunez's current boss, it appears that his efforts this season have not gone unnoticed after some impressive showings while deputizing for the injured Diogo Jota. Arne Slot said: "I think about Darwin, I gave him credit for the fact he worked so hard in previous weeks when he didn't play a lot to be able to play three games in a row.
"I think three games in eight days, so that says a lot about him – but it also says a lot about the quality of our performance staff and medical staff that we were able to give him the right sessions to prepare him in the right way. You always need the player to buy in because you can give him the right sessions, but if he doesn't give everything then it is very difficult for him to do what he did."
