Nottingham Forest’s Anthony Elanga has been told he can be “world class”.

The former Manchester United winger, who moved to the City Ground from Old Trafford in July last year, has been a key figure in the Reds’ flying start to this season in the Premier League. Nuno Espirito Santo’s side are in seventh place in the table, with 16 points from their opening nine matches.

Forest have been the surprise package in the Premier League so far this season, after successive battles against relegation in the past two seasons.

And Ryan Yates, who helped the Reds win promotion back to the top-flight in 2022, believes that, with the likes of Elanga and Callum Hudson-Odoi in their ranks, they now have a team capable of competing against every team in the division.

Yates was on target for Forest as they beat Leicester City 3-1 on Friday night, with leading scorer Chris Wood also scoring a second half double against the Foxes at the King Power Stadium.

And explaining their impressive start to the season, Yates said: “It’s a balance between that knowhow and experience. This is my third season in the Premier League.

“There’s a difference between the way I approach games from my first season to now. It’s completely different.

“But knowing we have the capability to take it to every team in the league is really positive.

“We have players like Callum and Elanga - they’re still so young, especially Anthony.

“He can be a world class player, he has the attitude to do it and given time, he’s going to produce some fantastic games and amazing numbers.”
