Who will manage Manchester United in next game? Interim coaching set-up confirmed
Manchester United will have a new man at the helm when they welcome Leicester City to Old Trafford in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday night.
Ruud van Nistelrooy is in interim charge after the club axed Erik ten Hag on Monday in the wake of United's disappointing 2-1 defeat at West Ham. The result leaves United 14th in the Premier League table ahead of a pivotal run of games across three competitions.
Van Nistelrooy, who only joined the club in the summer, is now in charge while a new head coach is sought. He will be supported in the dug-out by assistant Rene Hake - another who arrived in the summer - with the former Twente and Go Ahead Eagles boss retaining his position.

Darren Fletcher - now a first-team coach having previously held the title of technical director - will also be a key part of the backroom team. Set piece coach Andreas Georgson and goalkeeper coach Jelle ten Rouwelaar are the other main players in the United coaching set-up.
United dispensed with Ten Hag but have retained the coaching staff while they plot their next move. It remains to be seen if Van Nistelrooy emerges as a contender for the job and further coaching changes will depend on who comes in as the next boss.
United's statement announcing Ten Hag's departure read: "Erik ten Hag has left his role as Manchester United men’s first-team manager. Erik was appointed in April 2022 and led the club to two domestic trophies, winning the Carabao Cup in 2023 and the FA Cup in 2024.
"We are grateful to Erik for everything he has done during his time with us and wish him well for the future. Ruud van Nistelrooy will take charge of the team as interim head coach, supported by the current coaching team, whilst a permanent head coach is recruited."
