Manchester United announce Antony transfer agreement ahead of £84m move from Ajax
Manchester United have announced an £84million agreement has been reached to sign Ajax forward Antony.
The deal remains subject to the player completing his medical, personal terms being finalised, and international clearance.
Antony, 22, is not expected to be eligible for his United debut on Thursday against Leicester amid reports his visa will not arrive in time. He will, therefore, likely make his Old Trafford bow against Arsenal three days later.
Already this campaign, the Brazilian has scored three goals for Ajax despite being left out of their last two games as he pushed for a move away. In 2021-22, he scored 12 goals and made 10 assists in 33 appearances.
The Red Devils will complete their fifth signing of the summer when Antony formally signs his contract.
The fee outweighs the £70m paid for Casemiro as well as the deals for Lisandro Martinez and Tyrell Malacia, while Christian Eriksen arrived as a free agent.
On the weekend, Ajax boss Alfred Schreuder hit out at Antony for demanding the move as he discussed the fee his club will earn for the winger.
“Today, the amounts are crazy,” he said. “Barcelona paid €115m for [Ousmane] Dembele, Manchester United also paid more than €100m for [Jadon] Sancho.
“Then you can pay that for [Antony] too. Are the players worth it? No. But it will be paid.”
