Manchester United XI vs Leicester: Van Nistelrooy names starting lineup, confirmed team news, injury latest for Carabao Cup

Ruud van Nistelrooy has named his first line-up as interim manager of Manchester United, with Leicester City the visitors in the Carabao Cup.

The Red Devils sacked Erik ten Hag on Monday after the 2-1 defeat away at West Ham less than 24 hours before, with former United hero Van Nistelrooy quickly installed as the club’s new caretaker boss.

Quite how long the Dutchman is in charge remains to be seen amid growing reports that United are closing in on a move to appoint Sporting CP boss Ruben Amorim as Ten Hag’s full-time replacement.

What is for certain, however, is that Van Nistelrooy is in the dugout tonight.

United remain without a host of key players, particularly in defence. None of Luke Shaw, Leny Yoro, Harry Maguire, Kobbie Mainoo or Tyrell Malacia are expected back here, while Antony and Mason Mount will need to be assessed. Shaw has suffered a setback in his return from injury, as confirmed by Ten Hag before his sacking.

Noussair Mazraoui came off against the Hammers but no update on his condition has been given so far.

Victor Lindelof is handed a first domestic start of the season, while cup keeper Altay Bayindir also comes in. Youngster Jayce Fitzgerald makes a United matchday squad for the first time.
