Marc Cucurella will miss Chelsea's clash against Everton next weekend after being sent off against Brentford on Sunday.

The defender was shown a second yellow card moments after the final whistle at Stamford Bridge. The Premier League confirmed in a statement that the Spaniard was dismissed for "adopting an aggressive attitude".

It means Cucurella will be suspended for one game, due to the defender picking up two yellow cards and not a straight red. Therefore, Enzo Maresca will be without the left-back for next Sunday's Premier League clash away at Everton.

The former Brighton man will be able to play on Thursday night against Shamrock Rovers in the UEFA Conference League, however, should Maresca wish to play the Spaniard. If he does not feature on Thursday, Cucurella will next be in action against Fulham on Boxing Day.

Up until the sending off Cucurella was one of Chelsea's better players against Brentford, with his first-half header helping the Blues to a 2-1 win over Thomas Frank's side. The result leaves Chelsea just two points behind league leaders Liverpool.

Maresca, though, maintains his side are not title challengers. "You can talk about the title and the fans can dream about the title, absolutely," the Italian said.

"If you ask me, I will tell you what I think. For me, we are not ready but we are happy the fans can dream."
