Marco Silva makes 'unstoppable' Liverpool claim and 'emotional' admission after Anfield

Fulham boss Marco Silva rued a missed opportunity as his side drew 2-2 with Liverpool at Anfield. Andy Robertson's sending off early in the game changed the dynamic but the Portuguese coach felt the home crowd made the difference.

"The game is emotional here," Silva told the BBC. "The crowd plays a big part and with the quality of Liverpool, they can almost be unstoppable. It's the risk you have to take because we believe in ourselves. Liverpool are so good and they are winning so good, they are an aggressive team. Everything went to plan for us on the left-hand side.

"I think the red card created more emotion in the game. The crowd played their part. We had to keep more of the ball and make them run more. We reacted well and had so many times three against four, the decision-making has to be better. We conceded a late goal in a moment we were too open and the quality of Diogo Jota made an impact."

Liverpool drew level first through Cody Gakpo before Jota then slid home a second leveler on the day. Returning from injury to make a big impact for his team, the Reds' number 20 rescued a point.

"We should have taken three points," Silva said. "With one player more and leading the score, we should have been more narrow. We were too open and their composure was decisive.

"The momentum is here and in our group. I have to give credit to our players for their attitude and commitment. We have to go in the same way against Southampton next week."

Liverpool.com says: Gakpo and Jota got Liverpool a deserved point but it was slightly surprising how well the Reds were able to control things with a man less. Fulham didn't really have a great deal of counter-attacking threat though the Cottagers did do well to get on the wrong side of Jarell Quansah when Rodrigo Muniz put them in front.
