It appears Inter Milan forward Marcus Thuram might not prove to be the answer to Liverpool's search for a center forward.

The 27-year-old was tipped with a move to Merseyside after a hot start with Inter Milan. Thuram has scored seven goals and provided two assists for the Nerazzurri as they sit near the top of the Serie A.

He featured in France's 2-1 victory over Italy at his home stadium, the San Siro. When speaking with reporters in the mixed zone after the match, Thuram admitted “I love this stadium, I love San Siro," per Gazzetta.

“The game against Italy was strange for me," he continued. "I played against my brothers, which was very strange, but I love all of them, and I was happy to cross paths with them.” Is this an admission of his desire to stay with the Italian giants?

Thuram was born in Parma in 1997 while his father Lillian played for the Italian side. Lillian Thuram scored both goals in a 2-1 1998 World Cup Semifinal victory for France as they ultimately captured that year's Jules Rimet Trophy.

Marcus Thuram broke out with nine league goals with Guingamp in 2018/19 to earn a €12 million ($13 million) move to Borussia Monchengladbach. He scored 44 goals and assisted 21 more in 134 appearances for the German side and helped them return to the Champions League in 2020/21 for the first time in a half-decade.

Despite his strong stats, Thuram developed a reputation as a suspect finisher. His 13 league goals in the 2022/23 season came from an xG of 16.5. He moved to Inter on a free transfer in 2023 and scored another 13 league goals, this time from an xG of 14.3. Thuram added a further seven assists in his 34 starts as the Nerazzurri comfortably won the league.

Thuram is under contract until 2028 and owns an unsavory € 85million ($90 million) release clause. At 27, Liverpool would likely struggle to net any return on investment should the Reds continue to pursue the French forward. Star forward Mohamed Salah is out of a contract in 2025 and the Reds have a host of wingers off to hot starts this season in Luis Diaz and Cody Gakpo.

The club also invested in forward Federico Chiesa this summer, though the Italian forward has hardly featured due to his injury struggles. He's been linked with a loan move to Inter in January. If Salah were to leave, would Liverpool consider moving for a center-forward to compete with Darwin Nunez instead of another winger?
