David Gray has challenged Hibs legend Martin Boyle to fight his way back into the team after the winger dropped down the pecking order.

Boyle has struggled for form this season and has been used from the bench in their last three Premiership outings. The Australia forward, who underwent a hand operation in September to fix a problem he sustained in pre-season, also did not feature for the Socceroos in last month’s World Cup qualifiers against Saudi Arabia and Bahrain.

And Gray insists it is up to the 31-year-old to give him a selection headache. He said: “Martin’s been a huge player for the club over the past few years, or a number of years now. He had a bit of an injury at the start of the season with his hand, which affected him, I don’t think anyone can say it didn’t.

“He’s someone that needs to just keep pushing to try and get in the team because of the strength and depth we’ve got in there – the wingers we’ve got.”

Meanwhile, Hibs have used their connection with Bournemouth to bring Garvan Stewart on board as the new head of recruitment at Easter Road. The 38-year-old got down to work with the Leith men on Monday and he will work alongside sporting director Malky Mackay on all things recruitment and identifying targets for the club.
