Matt Eberflus’ Bears basically punted the ball for 3 hours against the Patriots as their 2024 spirals
If you thought the Chicago Bears had reached rock bottom after losing on a disastrous Hail Mary, you were wrong. If you thought the Bears had reached a new low after seemingly quitting during their listless loss to the Arizona Cardinals last Sunday, you were wrong. Dead wrong. Sorry!
After scoring just three points against the woeful New England Patriots on Sunday, Matt Eberflus' bunch has somehow found another new nadir. As a result, his coaching seat couldn't be any hotter.
There are simply too many ways to point out how futile the Bears' all-around effort was against New England, especially on offense. Caleb Williams and Co. couldn't get anything going all afternoon with eight punts on 10 possessions. Eight!
First, there's the fact that the Bears have now not scored a touchdown in two straight games. That's the franchise's longest such streak in two decades:
Bears have failed to score a touchdown in back-to-back games for the first time in 20 years.

Then, you have Williams getting battered and bruised time and time again. Sunday was the second consecutive game where the Bears allowed at least six sacks, as the Patriots racked up nine. That's the first time that's happened in three decades. Oh, by the way, New England had 16 total coming in.
The Bears have given up at least 6 sacks in back-to-back games for the first time since 1993.
They've given up 6+ sacks in a game 7 times under Matt Eberflus. It happened only 3 times from 2013-21 (Trestman, Fox, Nagy).— Kevin Fishbain (@kfishbain) November 10, 2024
If that weren't enough, Chicago finished with 69 net passing yards and 142 total yards of offense. After a promising start to the year, the Bears appear to be breaking Caleb Williams, and they seem to be quitting on their coaches.
The Bears cannot continue on like this for another eight games. The players have clearly made their statement about how they feel about the current situation. Parading on with no meaningful changes whatsoever (offensive coordinator Shane Waldron getting fired/losing play-calling duties? Eberflus getting fired? Both getting fired?) would be a slap in the face to their current roster and any fans still, somehow, watching them.
