Micah Richards makes Manchester United transfer prediction after Ruben Amorim appointment

Former Manchester City defender Micah Richards believes Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim could add "five or six" players to his squad in next summer's transfer window.

Amorim was installed as United's new head coach earlier this month, succeeding Erik ten Hag, and oversaw a 1-1 draw with Ipswich Town at Portman Road in his first game in charge on Sunday afternoon.

United made a flying start in Suffolk, scoring inside the opening two minutes via Marcus Rashford, but were pegged back just before half-time via a deflected effort from Omari Hutchinson.

Had it not been for goalkeeper Andre Onana, United would have made the trip back to Manchester empty handed, with the Cameroonian making a cluster of impressive saves.

Nevertheless, there was enough evidence on show to offer an insight into what Amorim wants to change at Old Trafford. And for Richards, he believes time will be key for the new United boss, but that he will have to wait until next summer before he can put his own stamp on the squad he has inherited.

Richards, reflecting on United's performance against Ipswich, told The Rest is Football podcast: "They looked alive, they looked sharp. All the things you thought [would happen]. I was getting excited, and then it just went flat.

"I don't think he [Amorim] is going to get the players he wants in January, but I think in the summer, we are going to see five or six players come in now. I just believe that.

"I was a bit disappointed in the showing. That's not the manager – he needs time to implement his style.

"It was almost like a fizzy drink. I expected so much; they started so well, and then it just fizzled out a bit. On another day, Ipswich could have scored four or five."
