Middlesbrough favourite reveals Championship theory and speaks out on his 'love' for football
Key man Riley McGree has stressed the importance of consistency in Middlesbrough's push for promotion. Michael Carrick's team went into the international break after recording impressive back-to-back wins over Queens Park Rangers and Luton Town.
Those victories came after a frustrating 3-3 draw at Norwich City and a poor showing at home to Coventry City. But although their performances and results have been up and down of late, Boro are well-placed for a top-six push. They are seventh in the table, one point outside the play-offs. It is their highest position of the season.
McGree, an unused sub in Saturday's 5-1 demolition of the Hatters, said: "We have to start stringing more wins together. Consistency to win more games is what we’re all here for. We’re playing some really good football at the moment and I think the more consistently we play that good football and things start clicking, hopefully it’s only a matter of time before we start to get where we want to be and where we need to be."

The Australian international opened his goal-scoring account in their 4-1 triumph at QPR last week. The versatile attacker, who has been on Boro's books since January 2022, has made seven starts and two substitute appearances during the 2024/25 campaign.
“I’m loving playing football again," he admitted. "Football is my life. I wouldn’t do it if I didn’t love it. Day-in, day-out, week-in and week-out, I’m just really grateful to be out there doing what I love.”
