Mikey Johnston admits he wishes his time at West Brom ended differently after suffering play-off heartache.

The Republic of Ireland international lit up the English Championship after joining the Baggies on loan from Celtic in January. Johnston notched seven goals in 20 appearances and his red-hot form even saw him scoop the league's Player of the Month award for March.

The dazzling winger's attacking contributions helped West Brom achieve a play-off spot, only for their promotion dreams to be shattered by a 3-1 semi-final defeat to Southampton. Johnston is one of 13 loan players due back at Parkhead this summer but fans of the Hawthorns club have urged manager Carlos Corberán to offer the 25-year-old a permanent deal.

And while Johnston could yet return to the West Midlands, the Hoops academy graduate has issued a farewell post on social media after a memorable five months in England.

He wrote on Instagram: "I wish it could’ve finished differently but still such a happy period of my career. An amazing club with such good people. Thank you for everything @wba and to the fans for the unbelievable support you’ve given myself and the team all season."
