Tymal Mills has been granted a testimonial year by Sussex.

The Sharks T20 captain will mark his decade at the club next season.

Mills led a resurgence in the county’s short format fortunes in 2024, leading them to an unexpected Finals Day appearance in his first year as skipper.

He has become a globe-trotting T20 specialist after injury problems ruled him out of longer formats.

Mills said: “It’s a great honour to have been offered a testimonial year by the club.

“When I first moved down to Sussex ten years ago it was with the aim of playing all forms of the game and although that quickly dissipated the club stuck with me every step of the way.

“I’ve received so much support from the club over the years and have no doubt that I wouldn’t have achieved what I have in the game if I had been anywhere else.

“Becoming the club’s all-time leading T20 wicket taker and then becoming captain in the last two years have been two of the proudest moments of my career so far and I have no plans of slowing down anytime soon.

“Sussex is a very special place for a lot of people including me and my family.

“I’m really looking forward to celebrating with everybody that’s helped and supported me in 2025.”

Mills told The Argus ahead of Vitality Blast Finals Day that he might have joined the many big-name players who have departed Hove in recent seasons.

He said: “There was one point a few years ago.

“We won’t get into the nitty-gritty. It wasn’t my doing, I didn’t want to leave.

“I wanted to play here for as long as I could.

“I have got no doubt I wouldn’t have achieved and done some of the things I have done in cricket if it wasn’t for the help and support I get back here. I love the club.”
