Is Liverpool the ideal opponent to face this weekend to improve performance levels?

"It is not changing, my message. It was clear at the start of the season. When we were in the top four I was telling and sending the message to the supporters and everybody, we are enjoying the way we are doing.

"We had a very successful season last year in the Premier League getting the Champions League. This year the objective is to keep it, but we are not contenders, we are not favourites. Favourites are Liverpool, City, Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester United, Tottenham and Newcastle.

"There are seven teams in front of us and then teams who are surprises like Nottingham Forest. I am not really worried about how we are now in the circumstances we are in the last two weeks, drawing to Bournemouth and losing to Tottenham. The Champions League is different and we are in our expectation.

"Tomorrow, Liverpool will be very difficult. They are completely favourites to beat us and to win the league this season in front of Arsenal and City. We are going to play 38 matches, we are in day 11 tomorrow and we are motivated and excited as well.

"We are keeping balance and tomorrow is an amazing match we will play in Liverpool, the team who is doing the best this season in the Premier League and Champions League."

How do you prepare differently to facing Arne Slot instead of Jurgen Klopp?

"They are playing very, very well. There are some tactical changes, but they are playing with the same players playing very well. The style and idea is clear and we can watch it. More or less they have the same power as before with their structure tactically. They are a strong team and individually as well.

"Tomorrow is a really huge challenge to stop them and play with our personality. We are analysing and building a team. We have to compete if we want to get to the level we had last year.

"We are more or less keeping it, but we have to be stronger in some circumstances, tactically, emotionally and mentally.

"We are building a team with different players and with some players who are coming back from injury. We are again building a team and a structure. We are in this process."

What do you make of the quality in the Premier League after 10 games?

"The Premier League is the best league in the world because you have better teams historically and now in the moment we are in. Progressively there are new coaches who arrive with new ideas tactically and football is going so quickly. We have to adapt and learn, and be better today than yesterday.

"The only way to get it is to be very demanding, trying to improve and understand as well how football is now. This is my challenge as a coach, to be in front in everything."

Has your approach changed after losing three games in a row?

"No. I am telling you that three weeks ago was my same message now. Of course we are increasing our level because we were demanding more and to keep going to stay consistent in the top positions. But there are another seven teams and we have to be more intelligent and competitive than them.

"Last year we were more or less a surprise when we were getting the fourth position. This year, for example, when we lost to Tottenham for them it was a special moment against us because they knew we were in front of them even now and last year.

"We are more or less a competitive team to be in the top seven, top five or top four. They celebrated the three points last week like they deserved. It was a very good example and a very good match for us.

"Tomorrow we are playing against Liverpool who we have competed well against and now it is about how is our level compared to them and how is our capacity compered to them."

Liverpool have had longer to prepare for the match - will that impact the game?

"If we want to play in the Champions League or in Europe and fight for trophies, then we have to play three matches in a week. If we are not able to play focusing mentally and physically in this direction then we are not going to get our objective.

"We need rest, we will train this afternoon and then we will prepare the match. Hopefully on the field we can show our capacity to face them competing with possibilities to get points."
