Minimoto kid Logan Orr takes junior title in impressive first season
Warm weather training worked wonders for Livingston kid Logan Orr, as he won the Scottish Minimoto Junior ‘A’ Championship in his first season.
The nine-year-old Williamston Primary pupil won all seven rounds of the East of Scotland Kart Club competition, having taken up the sport as a hobby three years earlier.
Mum Sarah Irving says the family couldn’t be more proud of Logan’s achievements, and that he was hooked on minimoto instantly.
She said: “This season Logan competed in the Junior A Championship, has been unbeatable, and finished first in all seven rounds.
“We couldn’t be prouder of him, and he himself is so proud of what he has managed to achieve.
“Minimoto racing is a huge commitment for Logan, his family and school, but the smile and excitement on his face when he gets on his minimoto is worth all the compromises.
“To prepare for the season, Logan went to Spain for winter training at Finestrat near Benidorm.
“He loved riding his minimoto all day, and improved so much over the training period.
“This sport has not only provided Logan with a hobby that he loves, but also a community of friends who he can share it with.”
Logan will move up to Junior ‘B’ next season on slightly bigger and faster bikes, and Sarah added: “Logan sat on his first minimoto at Knockhill Racing Circuit when he was six, took it for a spin round the skid pan in a competition to win a minimoto for a year, and after that he was hooked.
“He went on to Knockhill Kart Track that night for a shot in the hire and ride, was offered a bike for the season, and the rest is history.

“He has progressed steadily since, travelling all over Scotland from Golspie to Stranraer, racing in the Scottish Minimoto Championship.
“More recently, he has travelled to England to compete in the FAB racing events, competing against more powerful minimotos.
“Race weekends consist of finishing school at lunch time on Fridays and then travelling to the circuit.
“Practice is on Saturday and race day is Sunday, and the season starts around Easter and runs until mid-October.
“This has brought Logan out of his shell.
“This isn’t just a sport or hobby for him.
“When we go up there, all the kids when they’re not on bikes racing are playing football, or other things.
“The paddock life in general is absolutely amazing, with some brilliant kids.
“I would highly recommend it to anyone whose kids are interested.
“It definitely is something that we as a family all enjoy, and we make a weekend of it.
“You get to see the country as well, from the likes of Golspie to Stranraer and everywhere in between.”
