When the silence becomes deafening, even the merest murmur sounds like a scream. And such is the case with Mohamed Salah's agent Ramy Abbas Issa.

The ongoing lack of movement - at least in terms of public knowledge - regards a possible new Liverpool contract for Salah has left a vacuum that thus far has been filled with speculation and the occasional hint from the player himself.

So it didn't pass unnoticed on Monday morning when, for the first time in two months, Abbas took to social media to make a direct reference about the Reds forward.

Quoting a post from the official Premier League account which highlighted no player has had more goal involvements in the top flight this season, Salah was described by his representative as the "Best player in the world".

Now, it shouldn't come as a surprise that the agent should regard his client in such high esteem. And negotiations with Liverpool are not going to be swayed by comments on a social media platform.

But the timing of the post will undoubtedly intrigue given reports over the weekend from within the Egyptian media over Salah's future. It was claimed the player is seeking a two-year deal and will look to ramp up contract talks over the next fortnight after being handed a rare international break off with his country already qualified for the Africa Cup of Nations.

With Salah now less than two months away from being able to talk to clubs from abroad, the clock is ticking on Liverpool, led by sporting director Richard Hughes, ensuring the forward doesn't walk away for nothing next summer.

Of course, he isn't the only Liverpool player in a similar situation, with both Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold in the final year of their current deals. The Reds are working behind the scenes to resolve each issue, with talks underway with Van Dijk who is keen to remain at the club.

The ECHO reported earlier this season Salah would also prefer to stay at Anfield, with the forward's impressive Liverpool career continuing despite the change in the dugout with long-time boss Jurgen Klopp being replaced by Arne Slot over the summer.

Only Van Dijk and Ryan Gravenberch have played more minutes for the Reds this season while Salah's goal and assist in the 2-0 Premier League win over Aston Villa on Saturday made him the first player in Europe's leading leagues to reach double figures in both metrics this campaign.

For his part, Slot has regularly stated Salah, while 32, can still play at the top level for several more years given the work he puts in to ensure peak physical condition. And former Liverpool title winner Ray Houghton believes the way has been paved by one player in particular.

“I think the best example is Cristiano Ronaldo," he said to talkSPORT. "You look at what Ronaldo has done to himself, and how he's kept himself in prime condition. It's about attitude of mind, it's about living the right way, it's about applying yourself.

“And I think Mo's in that category. I think he wants to play for as long as he can, because he loves football, he loves scoring goals, he loves assisting."
