Mohamed Salah could give Liverpool transfer advantage for $54m ace who sees him as 'big brother'

Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah.

Almost as soon as Arne Slot arrives through the door at Liverpool, there will be questions about what his side will look like and who he might sign in the summer transfer market. The latter part of that will mainly be the job of sporting director Richard Hughes, but the link and the query is understandable.

Liverpool will not need wholesale changes to its squad as the performance against Tottenham showed. Instead, a little more depth and some additional quality in key areas will be vital. Jürgen Klopp leaves behind a very good starting point but there is still more work to be done in the coming months.

According to the German outlet BILD, Liverpool and Spurs having gone head to head over the weekend — are preparing to do battle for a summer transfer. And the player in question is Eintracht Frankfurt's Omar Marmoush.

While not a household name outside of the Bundesliga, Marmoush has had an impressive season and has been linked with Arsenal and Newcastle United too. He has scored 16 times in all competitions, with 11 of those (and a further six assists) coming in 27 league appearances.

The 25-year-old’s deal at Frankfurt runs until 2027 and Frankfurt is 'only willing to talk' about selling him if there’s an offer of around $54m (£43m/€50m). Primarily a number nine, he can also play on either flank.

"I'm learning everything from Mohamed Salah on and off the pitch," Marmoush said in March, via Ahram Online. "It's a great honor to play alongside one of the best players in the world."

"I always learn from him how to become a professional, both on and off the field," Marmoush continued. "He's like a big brother to me and the other young players. He talks to us about sleep, work ethic — everything. I constantly seek his advice and benefit from his vast experience in matches. Playing alongside him is a fantastic feeling." says: The Reds could probably do with adding another attack to their roster ahead of next season for some added depth, though Kaide Gordon and Ben Doak will hope to come through and get more senior minutes too. Someone who can play in multiple positions would make the most sense as they would be able to provide cover in all areas.

It's pretty clear that Liverpool would have a major advantage if it does go for Marmoush as well. In Salah, it has a player that could help seal the deal. While there has been speculation about a possible exit for the 32-year-old Egyptian, the Reds expect their talisman to still be at the club when the new season kicks off.
