Morton Club Together founder is re-elected to board of supporters' group

THE supporters' investment group that holds the majority shareholding in Greenock Morton have elected two new board members - with the body's founder making a return after a year out.

Morton Club Together (MCT) says the appointment of Graham McLennan and Ronnie Millar heralds a new era for the organisation.

The pair were appointed after a vote of MCT members at the group's annual general meeting at Cappielow.

Mr McLennan, who founded MCT back in 2019, returns as a director having previously served on the board before stepping down last year due to health reasons.

Mr Millar is a former police officer who spent 30 years in the force before retiring in 2009.

He then worked with the Scottish Court Service in an administrative capacity.

Ronnie was a member of the Save the Ton committee which worked to keep Morton afloat during administration in 2001.

The pair will be joined on the freshly-bolstered board by George Wall and Jon Keen, who also won the endorsement of members in the vote.

Mr Wall was co-opted as a director after the last AGM and was required to stand for election, while Mr Keen was also required to stand for re-election at the end of his two-year term.

Morton Club Together was formed in 2019 and took over the club in 2021. The quartet will work alongside existing board colleague Tom Tracey as MCT enters a new phase of its development, including the establishment of the new Operational Team.

Mr McLennan said: "I am thankful to fellow members supporting me to serve again on the MCT board and I promise I will do my very best.

"There's a lot of urgent work to be done and an amazing opportunity ahead for us and our community, but we need to grab it.

"It's also great that so many members have already joined the new MCT operational team.

"We have started moving ahead in anticipation of what all members tell us are their priorities and ambitions for MCT, the club and our community.

"Once we have that crucial information, it's full steam ahead with all MCT members at the helm and the ops team our powerful engine.

"People power is incredibly strong and together we can achieve things that would otherwise seem impossible."

Mr Millar added: "I look forward to playing my part in strengthening the relationship between the GMFC and MCT boards and, by working together, ensuring that Morton remains a key part of the Inverclyde community and hopefully makes a return to the top of Scottish football.”

The additions to the board follow the recent resignations of Brian Gillan and Scott Gillan.
