Motherwell's injury woes continue as captain Paul McGinn has been ruled out for a "significant period of time".

The defender picked up the injury during training in the recent international break and joins a long list of Motherwell absentees including Ross Callachan, Harry Paton, Callum Slattery, and Jack Vale. Despite their injury crisis, Stuart Kettlewell's side are sitting in fourth place in the Scottish Premiership having won four of their opening seven games.

The Fir Park side host Tony Docherty's Dundee on Saturday and will now be without their 33-year-old club captain after what the manager described as "a muscle injury, completely innocuous".

Kettlewell said: “We have a disappointment, we lost Paul McGinn for a significant period of time. A muscle injury, completely innocuous and very simply he is going to miss a good chunk.

“It is a thigh injury to be a bit more specific, when striking the ball, and it looks like he has a muscle tear and will be out for a period of time.

“We will be a bit more specific on that but the fact of the matter is we are going to be without our captain and the other long-term injuries are moving along well.

“But obviously a huge disappointment in losing Paul.

“We can’t do anything about it. We work very closely with our sports science and medical staff who are top-drawer, absolute masters of their trade but sometimes that happens in football, you get injuries.

“We have tried to mitigate those circumstances but sometimes it happens.”
