Natasha Jonas set up a huge British showdown against Lauren Price after she outclassed Ivana Habazin to add the WBC welterweight title to her collection. Jonas, who already held the IBF crown, was returning to the ring for the first time since she beat Mikaela Mayer on points in January following 10 intense rounds of boxing.

But since that night at the M&S Bank Arena, the former Team GB star has endured months of frustration as she waited for a fight date and even contemplated walking away from the sport. Here, however, Jonas showed why she believes she is getting with age.

Jonas went on to produce a disciplined and well-measured display against Habazin just over an hour after Price had blown away Bexcy Mateus. She dominated the opening rounds before exploding into action in round four when she rocked her Croatian opponent with a big overhand right.

From there, the 40-year-old Scouser completely outclassed Habazin, who, it should be said, deserves credit for the heart she showed as she took some big shots. All three judges scored the fight in favour of Jonas, who said: "I just want to thank everyone who has come out for the 20 years you have supported me.

"I am so proud to represent this city. I am my own biggest critic. You just have to adapt as you go through the rounds.

"I was a bit off it in parts but that's why I wanted a warm-up. I think I hurt her in one of the earlier rounds.

"I probably made myself tired overtrying to get her out of there. I can look forward to Christmas now. I think I've got 22 people to make roast potatoes for on Christmas Day. My story doesn't end here and it won't end against Lauren Price either."
