Nathan Lyon: Australian spinner joins Lancashire for 2024 county season
Australian spinner Nathan Lyon has signed for Lancashire for the entirety of the 2024 county season.
The stint will be Lyon’s first in county cricket since he helped Worcestershire win promotion back in 2017 and will make him available across all formats.
Australia’s Test commitments finish with March’s tour to New Zealand, meaning the 36-year-old will be available to make his debut when defending champions Surrey visit Old Trafford in the County Championship season opener next April.
Lyon, who has 496 Test wickets, has recently returned to action in the Sheffield Shield following the calf injury which curtailed his Ashes series midway through the Second Test at Lord’s earlier this summer.
“This is an exciting opportunity for me and I am really looking forward to heading over to England for a full season of county cricket with Lancashire," he said.
"I love playing cricket in England. I'm keen to keep learning, keep improving my game and hopefully I can contribute to winning matches for the Red Rose and pass on some of the experiences that I have gained over the years throughout my career.
"They have a strong squad at Lancashire and Emirates Old Trafford is a really great venue to play cricket at, so I am looking forward to that. It will also be great to catch up with Jimmy Anderson too."
