An added time own goal spared Leeds United's blushes at Deepdale as they came away from Lancashire with a 1-1 draw agains Preston North End. It continues Daniel Farke's side poor away form this campaign - just three wins from ten outings on their travels.

To add to this, Sheffield United moved three points clear at the top of the Championship with a win over Plymouth Argyle. Sunderland also reduced the Whites' advantage over third place to just two points.

Here is how the national media reacted to Leeds' 1-1 draw at Preston, including reaction from LeedsLive.

Preserve a point

Sky Sports

Jack Whatmough put through his own net right at the death to deny Preston a hard-fought victory over Leeds in the Sky Bet Championship., The 28-year-old came on to help preserve a point but prodded Dan James' cross into his own net in the 93rd minute, resulting in a 1-1 draw.

Brad Potts had bagged the 23rd-minute opener but it was not meant to be for the hosts, who battled hard until the end but just fell short against the promotion-chasing visitors. Going into this, Leeds had only won three of their first nine matches on the road while Preston had only lost one home league game under Paul Heckingbottom so it should not have been a surprise when the Lilywhites went ahead.

Relentless pressure

Jack Whatmough's stoppage-time own goal gave Leeds United a point at Preston North End as the Whites kept pace at the top of the Championship. A blistering first-half counter-attack started and finished by Brad Potts, allied to stubborn second-half resistance, looked to have given Preston victory and Leeds a third defeat on the road in four.

But the home side succumbed to relentless pressure from Daniel Farke's outfit and in the 93rd minute, Dan James provided the cross that flicked in off the unfortunate Whatmough. Second-placed Leeds are now three points behind leaders Sheffield United after the Blades beat Plymouth later on Saturday.

A point better than nothing

Beren Cross, LeedsLive

For long periods, this was another dose of pain and frustration for Leeds on the road, but taking a point home is not an outcome to be sniffed at. Preston, for all of their limitations, had only lost two of their previous 13 games before kick-off.

Heckingbottom’s side have drawn a lot and struggle to get themselves over the line, but they are incredibly hard to beat. Leeds are far better than the vast majority of opposition in the Championship and should feel disappointed whenever they don’t win, but there has to be some merit in what they ground out on Saturday.

Yes, elements of this performance will sting and need improvement, but across a 46-game season, drawing away at a team with two losses in 13 is not a terrible outcome.
