Neal Maupay was revelling in the drama again as he trolled a Nantes defender after scoring against him. The 28-year-old grabbed his second league goal for Marseille in their win over Nantes as he continued to make an impression during his spell on loan from Everton.

Interviewed after the game, Nantes defender Nicolas Pallois praised elements of the goals but questioned the failure of his teammates to stop the move before Maupay was able to finish.

But amid his answer he referred to Maupay's “short” stature. According to Le Figaro, Maupay responded by telling reporters: "I just heard on TV that he said I was small. But hey, there's no point in being big if it's to get moved. For me, it was a quiet evening ."

As social media accounts picked up the back and forth, Maupay turned to X to share one that lauded Maupay for getting the better of Pallois, adding to it a video of boxer Tyson Fury pointing and laughing at the camera with his dressing room team.

It is the latest from Maupay, who will join Marseille on a permanent basis at the end of the campaign due to the terms of the loan deal with Everton.

When his departure from Everton was announced in the summer, he shared a clip of the prison break scene from the Shawshank Redemption. Maupay scored just once in a difficult spell on Merseyside that saw him loaned out to Brentford last season.
