Neil Critchley could trim Hearts squad as new boss quizzed on transfer plans
Neil Critchley admits he may have to consider trimming his bloated Hearts squad.
The Jambos boss has just got his feet under the table at Tynecastle but, along with CEO Andrew McKinlay, is already planning for the January window. Critchley refused to be drawn on his plans but is in the process of identifying new targets. The Englishman's main priority, though, could well be shifting some deadwood out of the club.
He said: "I'm not going to go into that right now, because I've only been here for a matter of weeks, and I'm still assessing and learning about the players that are in front of me.

"My sole focus is on trying to help these players to improve and get better. They are a good group of people and sometimes things just don't go your way. What we can't do is feel down about that. I feel you're always looking for two players in every position, but you also want to have the balance right.
"You've got to get the balance between youth and experienced players, and providing opportunities for young players to know that if they are good enough they have a pathway to the first team.
"You don't need a rocket scientist to work out that we've got quite a big squad in terms of numbers at this moment. But that might be for further down the line, not right now."
