Former captain Nemanja Vidic believes Ruben Amorim has the right mentality to succeed at Manchester United.

Amorim was installed as Erik ten Hag's successor on November 1 and officially started work at Old Trafford earlier this week after arriving from Portugal on Monday afternoon.

United identified the 39-year-old as their first-choice option to replace Ten Hag and wasted next to no time in thrashing out a deal with Sporting Lisbon.

Amorim had spent four-and-a-half years in the Portuguese capital, leading Sporting to two league titles. He left the club on Sunday having led them to 11 wins from 11 league games so far this season.

Although Vidic, who spent eight years at Old Trafford, winning 15 trophies, has admitted he is not an expert on Amorim's coaching career, he is encouraged by United's decision to appoint him.

Vidic, speaking to Sky Sports, said: "I don't know much about him. [But] obviously, I know he was very successful at Sporting Lisbon.

"He seems like a very positive guy and I think he has a winning mentality. He played at a top level. He was a decent player. He has a good background.

"But, for me, what managers and coaches need in the modern game is, first of all, good recruitment, and an ability to deal with the players, media, and even with the people in the club. I hope that he is the right fit for the club."

The start of another new chapter at Old Trafford means a gradual shift in the landscape of the squad is expected to follow. Vidic, however, insists that means more than just adding players to suit Amorim's vision.

"A job needs to be done in the next few transfer windows," added the Serbian. "Not just players they are going to bring in - I think some players definitely have to try and find new teams."
