Newcastle United incident sparks unseen Eddie Howe touchline reaction as Forest get lucky
Eddie Howe admits uncharacteristically confronting fourth official Michael Salisbury in anger as Nottingham Forest were let off the hook by referee Anthony Taylor at the City Ground.
The home side escaped punishment as Ryan Yates left an elbow on Tino Livramento midway through the first half, causing the Newcastle right-back to bleed from his lip. Seconds later as Forest countered it was Dan Burn earning himself a booking for stopping Morgan Gibbs-White in his counter attacking tracks.
Howe was unhappy with the decision, with Livramento needing treatment for his injuries, Newcastle missing out on a dangerous free-kick opportunity and Yates escaping unpunished.

“It’s very rare you see me run to the fourth official but I thought Tino had been elbowed in the face and it was a clear free-kick, wasn’t given and Dan paid the price for that really because he feels like he has to make the foul in that moment," Howe admitted after the 3-1 win.
Burn's booking means the centre-back has now picked up five for the campaign and will subsequently miss the visit of West Ham United after the international break.
“We knew we were going to lose Dan at some stage and Fabby and Joey are in the same position so I’m probably pleased we’re not losing them all at the same time. It’s a huge blow to lose Dan, he’s done very well this season," Howe continued.
Referee Taylor also missed a high challenge by Yates later in the first-half as the Forest man caught Sean Longstaff in the thigh when stretching for the ball. Had the Newcastle midfielder went down, rather than playing on, the referee, or VAR, would likely have had no option but to dish out either a yellow or a straight red.
Thankfully, Newcastle overcame the early incidents to fight back from 1-0 down with a gusty second-half display. Incisive finishing from the visitors earned a 3-1 victory, with Alexander Isak, Joelinton and Harvey Barnes finding the net after the interval.
