Newcastle United plea made as Kevin Keegan tribute planned at St James' Park
Wor Flags have issued a fresh plea for continued support from generous Geordies as they plot two 'huge' Newcastle United displays in the coming weeks. Club legend Kevin Keegan will be the focus of one St James' Park offering before the end of the year, with the fan-funded group planning a special tribute to the two-time Newcastle boss upon his return.
With home clashes against West Ham, Liverpool [the game Keegan's display is expected to be unfurled], Leicester City, Brentford and Aston Villa pencilled in before the turn of the year, Wor Flags are set for a busy end to 2024. This, after providing displays at women's games, England fixtures and other sports in recent months.
The Keegan display, in particular, promises to be a special visual after the club icon was invited back to St James' Park for the first time since Mike Ashley departed the club in 2021. His 2008 exit is still looked back on as one of the darker days of the previous regime but a clash between his two former clubs is the ideal time to celebrate his legacy in the stands.

“Over the next few weeks we’re going to be doing two huge displays. Most fans will now be aware that one of those displays will be paying tribute to Kevin Keegan," a Wor Flags spokesperson told Chronicle Live.
"We’ve wanted to do a tribute to Keegan for a long time now and it’s important to be able to put on a display fitting of the man and the importance of his individual role in the existence of Newcastle United as we know it today. Our fans absolutely adore him and with very good reason. Without his efforts as both a player and manager it’s not worth imagining the position the club would’ve been in so it’s important we acknowledge that as a fan base.
"The nature of our displays being entirely funded by supporters also makes this just that bit more special and authentic. With that in mind we would be hugely appreciative of any donations by supporters to help us continue our work commemorating those associated with our club last and present."
The group, made up by hard-working fans, have recently put on incredible Remembrance Day tributes, as well as displays solely aimed at the likes of Anthony Gordon, Bruno Guimaraes, Sandro Tonali and Newcastle's contingent of local lads. At present, supporters can show their appreciation by making one off donations, setting up monthly donations or buying from the Wor Flags shop online. A raffle is also under way to win a signed Anthony Gordon shirt.
