Newcastle United have 'relaxed' stance on Alexander Isak's contract status
Newcastle United chiefs remain relaxed over Alexander Isak's contract status despite fresh reports suggesting the striker is unsettled.
The Magpies have Isak tied down until 2028 and while the club are open to discussions on an extension they are not sweating on any imminent exit either. The long-term plan for head coach Eddie Howe is to hand Isak a new deal and build a team around the striker, not least with Anthony Gordon also recently putting pen to paper on a new deal.
Chronicle Live understands that Isak is deemed by Magpies as the future number 9 on Tyneside and has a genuine tilt at beating Alan Shearer's club record of 206 goals if he stays around. Reports over the international break have suggested that Isak is "shocked" by the pace of discussions.

But with the former Borussia Dortmund and Real Sociedad striker back in goalscoring form with four goals in as many games, Howe could not be happier with the situation and is convinced the star is settled where he is. Speaking earlier in the campaign on Isak, Howe said: "Regarding contracts, I'm not involved in those discussions day to day. With Alex, he's got a long contract anyway at the football club and we have to be really careful with our spending due to profit and sustainability rules (PSR). It's not a clear-cut situation."
Reflecting on the recent uplift in results, Isak said: "We have had our bad spell. Hopefully these wins can be an ice breaker for us. But one game at a time. We always just look to the next week."
