Hertha Berlin's Ibrahim Maza is the latest player to be linked with a move to Newcastle United ahead of the January transfer window. With PSR playing havoc on the Magpies' recent transfer windows, they have looked towards future stars for cheaper transfer fees. Over the last few years, the club have brought in Yankuba Minteh, Will Osula and the future arrival Vakhtang Sallia to St James' Park.

The potential arrival of Maza would continue that line of thinking. A fee in the region of €10-20 million is the asking price for the young Algeria international. Maza started his professional career with Hertha Berlin II before making the move up to the first-team in 2023. He made his Bundesliga debut in April of that year in a 2-0 defeat to Bayern Munich.

The 19-year-old scored his first goal for the club in his next outing, a 2-1 win over Wolfsburg, in the club's last game in the German top-flight. Hertha Berlin were relegated to Bundesliga 2 for the 2023/24 season.

A campaign that was disrupted by injury, only produced one goal in 13 games. However, Maza has been given regular game time this term and has really impressed. The attacking midfielder has scored seven times and bagged four assists in 18 games. Since the start of October, Maza has upped his numbers and hit a blistering run of form.

Maza played for Germany at U18, U19 and U20 level, last playing the for the latter back in September. He was called up to Algeria's squad in October and played one minute in their AFCON qualifying win against Togo.

Like Newcastle, fellow Premier League side Brentford have been in contact with Hertha Berlin. Atletico Madrid, Bayer Leverkusen and Stuttgart also have interest in the starlet.
