Newcastle United will be represented by just two players in Lee Carsley's final England squad for clashes with Greece and the Republic of Ireland later this month. The interim boss, currently holding down the fort until Thomas Tuchel takes over at the start of 2025, has opted for Anthony Gordon once again, while Lewis Hall has earned his first call up for the senior side.

Nick Pope has fought his way back into the fold in Carsley's recent squads after finding himself exiled by Gareth Southgate towards the end of his reign in charge of the national side - but this time around it is Aaron Ramsdale, Dean Henderson and Jordan Pickford called upon.

Tino Livramento was called up in September and ended up being drafted into the senior team from the under-21 side last month for the defeat to Greece and win over Finland - but he has also been left out. The right-back is yet to feature for the senior side.

Gordon is another who has benefitted from a change in manager of late, playing a regular role in Carsley's setup due to his tight-knit relationship with the head coach due to their exploits together at under-21 level.

Halls maiden call up is also well deserved after a stellar run of performances on the opposite flank to Livramento at club level, with the Newcastle left-back picking up the Magpies' 'Player of the Month' award for October. Expectation was high that the 20-year-old would earn his first senior selection after impressive displays at under-21 level for the Three Lions in recent wins over Austria and Ukraine.

"Lewis is not just knocking - he is banging on the door of the senior team," Newcastle legend Alan Shearer told Betfair this week. "I watched him closely at the weekend and he had a fantastic game against Bukayo Saka, one of the best players in the Premier League and Arsenal's danger man."

England have a left-back issue that needs solving before the 2026 World Cup, with experienced stars such as Ben Chilwell currently out of favour at Chelsea and Luke Shaw struggling to stave off frequent injuries. Rico Lewis of Manchester City and Aston Villa's Ezri Konsa have been parachuted into that position in recent matches.

Elsewhere, Carsley has called on Southampton's Taylor Harwood-Bellis for his first ever senior shout, while Cole Palmer and Declan Rice have both been called on despite injury concerns.

Tuchel is said to have had no influence over this England squad as he prepares to take over in the New Year. The former Chelsea boss knows both Livramento and Hall well as the duo prepare to audition for a regular role in the squad in the coming months.
