Newcastle United transfer desire remains as Eddie Howe finds short-term solution until January
Newcastle United have found a short-term stop-gap for their right-wing problems - but a more permanent solution is still needed in the January window. That is according to both Aaron Stokes and Andrew Musgrove, speaking of this week's Everything is Black and White podcast.
Anthony Gordon started in that particular position in Sunday's 3-1 win over Nottingham Forest but was switched to the opposite flank midway through the first-half at the City Ground. Joelinton would, in turn, swap roles to down the right, where he impressed as he found the net in front of a raucous away end.
The Brazilian has excelled in any role Eddie Howe has played him in of late, with the majority of supporters hoping the front three of Joelinton, Gordon and Alexander Isak continue to get the nod. The Magpies have been crying out for an out and out right-winger who could truly make the position his own in recent seasons - and Joelinton's recent form out wide doesn't seem to have changed that.

The Chronicle's Newcastle United Editor, Stokes, said: "I think Joelinton or Gordon on the right is a perfectly good stop-gap for the next two months and then in January you go out and buy a right winger. It's not the answer long-term but the last two or three games it has worked in the short term.
Podcast host, Musgrove, agreed: "It gets you to January. I was thinking actually had Joelinton played on the right for a few more games and he had scored five, six, seven goals, then that's maybe the time to ask the question."
That question was asked Monday's episode, put to listeners and viewers asking if Joelinton's new-found form out wide, rather than in the middle of the park, was enough to lessen the need for a January splurge in the winter market. The majority of responses backed up Stokes and Musgrove's feelings, with fans still hopeful of some activity in the January transfer window.
"Eddie is putting square pegs in round holes to try and get the best out of the team and it's currently working. We still need a top quality RW," one response noted.
"As well as Joelinton has done the squad still needs a proper right sided winger," another added. "Joelinton is a gap filler, class in multiple positions - DM, CM, LW, RW, AM - and he can do a job as a ST too!" said one.
