Frustration has given way to a flurry of goals for Alexander Isak in recent weeks. From famine to feast, the Newcastle United striker has found the back of the net in his last four outings for the Mags, taking his tally to the season to five scored, with two assists.

It's a steady return in 11 games for the focal point up front for Eddie Howe's men, with the Swedish striker's recent performances serving to underline his importance to the team. It also serves as a reminder to rivals that Isak's contract talks are still ongoing and his future remains unresolved.

For a player with three and a half years remaining on his current deal, talk of an "unresolved" future may seem a stretch, but when fresh talks have started and then stalled with a club surrounding a new deal, the assessment carries a real justification. And so the transfer speculation which was evident in the summer, begins to return with a much stronger force as we again approach the transfer window silly season.

Arsenal and Chelsea are long-term admirers, with the Spanish giants of Barcelona and Real Madrid now also mentioned in dispatches surrounding the player.

Now a new name is entering the frame with a gathering momentum emerging to suggest Liverpool may be tempted into joining the list of potential suitors. The Reds could have something of a rebuild on their hands in the summer with the likes of Trent Alexander-Arnold, Mo Salah and captain Virgil van Dijk expected to depart. While none play in Isak's role, the lack of a consistent striker up top has been an issue the Reds have not solved and one masked by Salah's goals.

There are suggestions Liverpool are monitoring Isak's contract situation closely. Meanwhile, the player is carrying on with business as normal. Isak previously stressed he 'loved' playing for Newcastle and 'didn't want to entertain these types of rumours'.

So long as the goals keep going in there will be no suggestion the stalled talks are affecting his game, but the flip side is, if that's the case don't expect the transfer rumours to go away.
