Newcastle United's quadruple January transfer decision as Mourinho and Saudis eye deals
Newcastle United are expected to generate interest in outgoing business ahead of the January transfer window.
Head coach Eddie Howe has fought to hold on to former England defender Kieran Trippier in the last two windows after interest from Bayern Munich, Saudi Pro League sides, and both Fenerbahce and Besiktas in the Turkish Super Lig. Sources on the Turkish agent circuit are now suggesting there will be fresh interest in Trippier drummed up from Fenerbahce and Besiktas for the right-back once again.
Clubs in Turkey have a big interest in luring Premier League stars and can offer big wages and friendlier tax rules than in Europe. Former Barcelona star Giovanni van Bronckhorst is keen on Trippier but there is also interest from Jose Mourinho at Fenerbahce with a star right-back wanted at the Sukru Saracoglu Stadium as the Istanbul side struggle to maintain pace with Galatasaray at the top of the table.

Once again, there is expected to be interest from the Saudi Pro League for Newcastle star Miguel Almiron and striker Callum Wilson. Almiron made it clear he did not want to leave Newcastle in the last two windows but he has not been a regular this term.
Trippier and Wilson were both regularly linked with the exit door in the summer but Howe stated in August he was surprised to hear the reports he was on the brink of leaving. He said then: "Trips is a valuable member of the squad. His professionalism has been first class.
"I'm not really sure where this has come from. "His leadership skills, his ability with the ball, his assist record, everything he brings to the group we definitely want here."
Trippier is currently injured but quietly triggered his contract until summer 2026 last term. Wilson's contract is also said to be close to expiry but the former Coventry and Bournemouth star has not played for the club since last May.
Howe said on Wilson last week: "It will be massive (to have him back). You could see (against Brighton), if we had a fit and firing Callum Wilson available, in any sense whether that's starting or coming off the bench, it will have lifted our performance. Not just the player, but the character of the player and the leadership qualities he possesses. He's been a big miss."
Doing deals for any of the above would see any incoming cash injection go straight into the kitty. Newcastle demonstrated they had £75m in the bank to bid for Marc Guehi back in January so Howe could arguably end up with close to £100m if one or two of the unsettled stars are sold in January.
