Next Hull City manager candidates Acun Ilicali could turn to including serial promotion winner

Hull City are on the lookout for a new manager after sacking Tim Walter on Wednesday in the aftermath of Tuesday night's dismal 2-0 home defeat to Sheffield Wednesday.

Walter's tenure came to a crashing end with a fourth straight defeat which left City mired in the Championship's bottom three and without a victory in nine games, with club legend Andy Dawson taking charge until an appointment is made.

Attention now turns to the German's successor, and who will be handed the task of stabilizing City and moving them away from the bottom three ahead of the busy Christmas schedule.

Here, Hull Live looks at some of the potential candidates....

Mark Robins

Arguably is one of the top choices amongst the fans for the incredible job he did with Coventry City during a turbulent seven-and-a-half year, coming within a penalty kick away from winning promotion to the Premier League, as well as coming agonisingly close to winning the FA Cup final back in May, losing to Manchester United.

Questions have been raised about how productive Robins was following the exit of trusted lieutenant Adrian Vivash, but few could argue with what Robins achieved with the Sky Blues in a chaotic period.

John Eustace

The former midfielder has done a sterling job at Blackburn having done a similarly sterling job at Birmingham City before the ridiculous decision to sack him in favour of Wayne Rooney last season.

It was no surprise Blues sunk without a trace after his departure, and it's even less of a surprise to see Eustace, the former Coventry, Watford and Stoke City midfielder, doing well at Blackburn, masterminding a terrific result at Boro on Wednesday night to close the gap on the top six.

Slavisa Jokanovic

A serial promotion winner with Watford and Fulham, the Serbian is thought to have unfinished business in English football after a disappointing spell at Sheffield United which saw him sacked after a short spell in South Yorkshire. His last job in management came in Russia with Dynamo Moscow. The 56-year-old has also managed in Qatar, Spain and his native Serbia and is currently out of work.

Erol Bulut

The Turkish boss was one of the early season sackings in the Championship when he was given the bullet by Cardiff City after a poor start to the season. Naturally, Bulut's name will be linked with the job owing to his Turkish roots and that of City's owner.

Steve Cooper

Probably the stand-out candidate in terms of what he's achieved in recent seasons, guiding Swansea City to the play-offs on two occasions before taking Nottingham Forest from bottom of the Championship to the Premier League via the play-off final at Wembley. Cooper then kept Forest in the top flight at the first attempt before being sacked this time last year.

Cooper was spoken to by City in the summer but he made it clear he wanted to wait for a Premier League job, but that has since come and gone with Leicester City sacking him last week.

Steven Schumacher

Out of work since being fired by Stoke City earlier this season, the links to Schumacher are understandable given he worked with Jared Dublin, the Tigers' head of recruitment, at the bet365 Stadium. Loved at Plymouth Argyle for his achievements in guiding the Pilgrims back to the Championship after 13 years, and for playing an attractive brand of football.

Ruben Selles

The Reading boss has done a tremendous job in the circumstances, working under a chaotic regime at the SCL Stadium, Selles has dealt with such problems on and off the pitch with real class, and has the Royals in the thick of the League One promotion race.

Tony Mowbray

Another stand-out candidate for any Championship club needing a manager. Mowbray's brilliant with his players, especially the younger ones, and would be a perfect fit for the Tigers. The timing may not work with the experienced boss not ready to return until the New Year after dealing with bowel cancer, but this would be a superb appointment.

Rob Edwards

Still in a job at Luton Town but not out of the woods by any stretch, and could yet leave Kenilworth Road having led the Hatters to the Premier League. Edwards is a manager that will be in demand should he end up leaving the Bedfordshire outfit, but it might come too late for City.
