Nick Montgomery has been linked with a quick-fire return to management just days after being sacked by Hibs.

The former Central Coast Mariners boss replaced axed Lee Johnson in September but failed to steady the ship at Easter Road as the Hibees were consigned to the bottom six. Montgomery won just 12 of his 37 games in charge before club chiefs decided to act after last weekend's dismal 4-0 home defeat to Aberdeen.

Montgomery - who was confident he'd still be in charge next season - has yet to break silence on his sacking. But the 42-year-old has been linked with a rapid return to the dugout with Western Sydney Wanderers. The A-League side are on the hunt for a new manager after Marko Rudan resigned for personal reasons.

And Montgomery's name has been touted for a sensational return to Australia. Monty led Central Coast Mariners to the A-League title last season and his stock is still high Down Under.

But he could face competition for the role, with the likes of Patrick Kisnorbo and Tony Popovic also among the frontrunners.
