Nicky Cadden won't accept one Hibs accusation that 'really annoys me'
Nicky Cadden can accept the stinging criticism from Hibs fans over the club's woeful run of form.
But the winger won't let anyone tell him his teammates don't care about the worrying state of affairs. David Gray's flops remain bottom of the league after a dismal 2-1 home defeat to St Mirren, albeit they do have a game in hand over city rivals Hearts in 11th. However, the facts don't lie and one win in 12 league games has the Easter Road faithful at breaking point after years of failure.
Scottish Cup-winning idol Gray is now clinging onto his job and while bungling club chiefs could yet wield the axe during the international break, Cadden simply won't listen to accusations that the players inside the dressing room don't care about the crisis.
He said: "That's the one thing that really annoys me, saying players don't take it to heart because we play football or we're well paid. My weekend is decided by results. If I win on Saturday, I'm happy. If I lose, I'm unhappy for the next couple of days and my missus gets the brunt of it.
"It's probably harder for her than me because I'm not really nice to be around. I just shut myself off, I look deep into things. That's me as a person and I'm sure everybody in there is the same and we're not happy with performances. Obviously we can say, 'Yeah, we weren't great' but we care as much as everyone else."
Most Hibs fans had already flooded for the exits by the time Cadden's injury-time spot-kick and disallowed equaliser almost completed a remarkable 2-2 comeback. Those who did stay made their feelings clear at full-time as Hibs were jeered off the park.
Cadden is big and old enough to handle the flak as he added: "I always applaud the fans no matter the result because they're spending their money to come and watch us play. I'm sure they won't be happy. Things are expensive these days, they're spending to come and see us and we're not performing. We're not giving it back to them and that's not good enough."
