It's been a long time since Aberdeen have felt the pain of a Premiership defeat, but that once familiar feeling returned on Saturday at a snowy SMiSA Stadium.

St Mirren ended Jimmy Thelin's perfect Premiership start as Richard Taylor's late header condemned the Dons to a 2-1 defeat, falling three points behind leaders Celtic in the table.

But you only have to look back to the beginning of 2024 to realise just how far the Reds have come and how impressive the unbeaten run has been.

Peter Leven kicked the side into gear after losing away at Dundee, with fans irate at the performance that night at Dens Park.

Since then, it's been nothing short of outstanding how Aberdeen have bounced back from the depths of the league table, even more so following Thelin's summer arrival.

Take a look at some of the impressive numbers behind that remarkable run.

The goals just kept on coming during the unbeaten Premiership run, and while it only started with a 1-0 victory against Motherwell, things took a turn towards the end of last season.

A 4-0 victory at Hibs and a 5-1 win at home to Livingston beefed up the tally, and big wins this season against Hearts and St Mirren have only added to that.

To go from a team that could barely find the net to bagging nearly half-a-century of goals between March and November, things have drastically improved up top.

The Dons did managed to breach the half-century mark when it came to points picked up from their run of fixtures.

A total of 16 victories and four draws came in that run, with only the trip to Celtic this season ending all square when Aberdeen fought back from 2-0 down to claim at point at Parkhead.

Thelin's side currently sit second in the table on 31 points, but last season it took until March 30 to surpass that number when they beat Ross County 2-1 at home thanks to goals from Bojan Miovski and Jamie McGrath.

By November 26 last year, they only had 13 points in total when they picked up a point from a 1-1 draw at home against Rangers.

In total, Aberdeen went 20 Premiership games unbeaten, and while that record will be up there with some of the best the club has ever achieved, they had a way to go to break the all-time tally.

In the 1983/84 season, the Gothenburg Greats went a staggering 27 games without a defeat under the leadership of Sir Alex Ferguson, hammering home just how good that side truly was.

Aberdeen would have done sensationally well to break that record, but the Red Army are still proud of their side nevertheless, staying behind in Paisley to applaud their team after their first defeat of the season on Saturday.

A total of 17 Aberdeen players got in on the act in front of goal during that run, with the goalscorers all adding to the remarkable tally of victories.

Usual suspects and less familiar faces are among them, with departed trio Bojan Miovski, Stefan Gartenmann and Junior Hoilett among them.

This season fans have become familiar with the sights of Ester Sokler, Jamie McGrath, Pape Gueye, Kevin Nisbet and even Graeme Shinnie firing in the goals.

The youngest of those to score was Fletcher Boyd, who grabbed a memorable strike at Easter Road as Aberdeen ran out 4-0 winners in Leith.

The earliest came in the second minute of a 3-2 victory over Hearts when Topi Keskinen opened the scoring, while the latest came in the 98th minute after Nisbet pulled out the late heroics to beat Ross County 1-0 in Dingwall.

Gueye even remains the joint top scorer in the Premiership, with several players tied on five for the campaign, but he will have to wait to add to that tally as he continues his injury rehab.

At the other end of the pitch, nine clean sheets were kept in the 20-game run, with both Kelle Roos and Dimitar Mitov to thank.

Roos, who has since left the Dons, bagged the most clean sheets with six in the 2023/24 campaign, while Mitov has three in the league this season.

His most memorable save also came in Dingwall when he pulled out an impressive penalty save before Nisbet's late winner.
