Olympic medallist inspires pupils with surprise school visit
Pupils at a primary school received a surprise visit from an Olympic medallist.
Anthony Harding, who received a bronze medal in diving at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, visited Castercliff Primary Academy in Nelson to inspire the youngsters.
He spoke to the children about the importance of having a positive mindset and shared his Olympic journey, highlighting how setting goals and taking action helped him reach his dreams.
His visit was part of a prize draw by NatWest, which saw six schools across England, Wales, and Scotland win a visit from a Team GB athlete.
More than 1,120 schools entered, with Castercliff Primary, in Marsden Hall Road North, being one of the lucky ones.
Anthony, 24, said: "I found the pupils at Castercliff Primary School to be engaging, intelligent, and truly inspiring.
"Witnessing their passion for sport was incredible, and it's clear that the sky is the limit for anyone there.
"This is a testament to the principles and high standards set by the teachers, which are evident throughout the school.
"I thoroughly enjoyed my visit to Castercliff and look forward to seeing the amazing things these students will go on to achieve.
"I hope I’ve inspired them to dream big."
His visit was part of the NW Thrive MoneySense programme.
Alongside Jack Laugher, Anthony finished third at Paris 2024 in the synchronised three-metre springboard event to pick up a bronze.
