The Olympic skateboarding teams from Canada and the United States got themselves out of a tricky situation by doing what they do best after the bus taking them to practice got stuck in the middle of the street.

Team Canada star Matt Berger filmed himself, his teammates and their American counterparts cruising down the streets of Paris on their skateboards in order to get to practice after their bus snafu, according to video shared with PEOPLE.

One video shows a number of people piling out of a stuck bus, and someone can be heard saying the word “crash.” Berger then puts the camera on himself and his teammates as they cruise the mile onward to Place de La Concorde in Paris.

Berger says the incident happened after their driver tried to make a right turn down a road it couldn't fit, and got wedged on the street. After 10 minutes of sitting and waiting, the athletes took matters into their own hands, trekking more than a mile to go practice.

Additional video shared with PEOPLE shows the group, including American skateboarding star Jagger Eaton, laughing and smiling as they cruise down Paris's historic streets.

Berger, who previously competed in Tokyo, is one of four skateboarders representing Canada at the Games this year. Men’s street skateboarding was set to take place on Saturday, July 27, but was bumped to Monday, July 29 due to excessive rain.

Skateboarding made its Olympic debut at the Tokyo 2020 Games in 2021, and competing this year for Team USA are Gavin Bottger, Tate Carew, Tom Schaar, Minna Stess, Bryce Wettstein, Ruby Lilley, Nyjah Huston, Jagger Eaton, Chris Joslin, Paige Heyn, Mariah Duran and Poe Pinson.

While park competitions take place on a course that’s a hollowed-out concrete bowl with various elements, street events take place on a straight course that features stairs, handrails and more, all arranged to resemble the urban environments from which skateboarding emerged.

According to the Games, “athletes perform a range of tricks and are also judged on how they control their board during the two 45-second runs and five tricks they carry out.”
